Pharmacy
At Midtown Veterinary Services and Hospital, we offer pet owners the option to purchase pets’ prescriptions from our on-site pharmacy, or to order from our online store for home delivery. We know our patients and their medical history through annual visits and consistent records. Because of this relationship, we can be more flexible with exams and testing requirements, we can prescribe, with confidence, the most appropriate medication to treat your pet’s condition, and we can anticipate drug interactions or other problems. When you refill your pet’s medications at a retail pharmacy, we have no record of the frequency of refills.
Our on-site pharmacy is a great advantage to our clients because we are able to supply medications right away. We maintain a complete inventory of pharmaceuticals, flea and tick control products, heartworm prevention solutions, and shampoos for dermatological treatments. Whether your pet requires medication for a chronic medical condition or needs short-term medication while recovering from an illness, injury, or surgery, you can count on us.
When our veterinarian prescribes your pet’s medications, you have the comfort of knowing that we have the most complete and up-to-date medical information on your pet. We will provide you with accurate information about the prescribed medication, including proper dosing information, and any potential drug side effects or interactions. We are also here to answer any questions you may have about your pet’s medication.
The veterinarians and staff at Midtown Veterinary Services and Hospital are trained and knowledgeable about the proper use, safety, and benefits of veterinary pharmaceuticals. Pharmacists and pharmacy technicians at pharmacies for people are not as well trained in veterinary pharmaceuticals, and can only explain the label claims of any given product. We exclusively stock only pet safe medications in our pharmacy. We do not substitute medications that contain dangerous ingredients like Xylitol that can cause a pet to become ill. Retail pharmacies for people can not be expected to know that a substitution they may supply would be toxic to an animal.
Another advantage of shopping at our hospital’s pharmacy is that you will be providing revenue to help support the maintenance of our facility and equipment. You will also be helping to provide for the salaries of our dedicated staff members that know and care about your pet and you. You are more than just a transaction to us because we care about you and your pet’s health and well being.
Let Midtown Veterinary Services and Hospital be your one-stop shop for all of your pet’s health care needs. You can rely on us to supply you with quality products from reputable sources that we know and trust. We stand behind our products. Guarantees offered by manufacturers are only good if the medication has been purchased through a veterinary clinic.
Retail Prescriptions
Should you prefer to purchase your pet’s prescriptions through a retail pharmacy, federal and state law requires a valid doctor-client-patient relationship. To comply with these regulations, the following will be required for us to provide you a prescription to be filled by a retail pharmacy:
- A complete physical exam of your pet by one of our staff veterinarians will be necessary. There is a fee for this exam. Antibiotics and anti-fungal medications will always require examination prior to refilling.
- Prescriptions will be written with enough refills for six months only. Exception: Heartworm and Flea Preventives will be written for 1 year or until the pet’s annual exam is due.
- Appropriate monitoring blood work must be performed.
